Why I Blog

Thursday, May 4, 2017

Today is my one year anniversary of starting my blog and it has caused me to really reflect about the reason I started it in the first place. I think as time passes and life gets busy, I seem to forget the real reasons behind the things I do. I think we all do that at times.

I started my blog on May 4th of 2016, with the intention of it just being a place to share my love for photography and design. I had recently just bought a camera about a month before and just wanted a space to share my photos. I had always really been into beauty and fashion, so I thought combining the two would be a pretty cool idea. As a few months passed by and I learned a bit more about the blogging world, I started to see all of the amazing things it had to offer. I started to meet some incredibly creative and inspiring people, and seeing how they were using their blogs to share their stories, their faith, and their inspirations. I realized that blogging could be used for so much more than just pretty pictures and outfit ideas, but as a platform for something so much greater. I know it has been a joke lately that "everyone blogs now" and "everyone is into photography" and honestly I have thought that myself in the past. At times I would ask myself, "Since everyone else is doing this, why should I? What makes me think I am any different than the next blogger?" But I have come to realize that no one else has the voice I have. No two people's stories are the same, and not everyone would be able to reach the people I can reach. I also think that photography is an amazing thing. It's the beauty of life, but captured! And it's crazy for me to give that up just because "everyone else is doing it."

I have shared a little but not a lot on this blog since I started it last year. Let me be honest, it's kind of intimidating, especially when you're such a private person like myself.  And at times I have felt like giving up due to criticism and defeat. But I hope that in some way I can be a positive Christian influence to the small audience I have that reads. I hope that one day I can expand my blog and really reach people with the unique voice that I have. I hope that I can utilize this platform in the best way I know how.

This may sound cheesy, but blogging has really changed my life in a lot of ways. It has taught me a lot about myself, introduced me to some amazing like-minded people, taught me more about the business world than college classes ever have, and gave me a platform to share whatever God puts on my heart.

God gives each of us a unique talents.
He gives us pictures to take and stories to share.
He gave me a voice.
 He gave me a platform.
He gave me a passion.
That's why I blog.
