Thrift Store Make Over! How To Style Vintage Thrift Store Pieces

When I was younger one of my favorite things to do was go thrift shopping with my mom. I have always been a huge bargain shopper and I'm a firm believer that you don't have to spend a ton of money to look stylish and put together. Older trends like this red floral pattern and front tie shirts are actually coming back into style but retailers like this one from Princess Polly retails for over $60.00!

So today I wanted to show ya'll how easy it is to transform old, outdated thrift store pieces into really cute and trendy outfits that you will love, at an extremely affordable price!

The first step in creating your outfits is to pick a thrift store in your area, and shop until you drop! Seriously though. Don't be afraid to look through everything because you never know what hidden gems you might find! I ended up finding a leather coach purse for only $3.00! I'm still in shock!!

A tip of advice that I have is to always look for potential. Just because something might not be so cute on the hanger, doesn't mean you can't turn it into something trendy.

For my outfit, I ended up picking out this really outdated red floral two piece dress. It looks a lot like something a second grade teacher would have wore in 1999, but hey, I saw the potential and decided to buy. (Only $5.00)
It had built in shoulder pads that I really didn't like so I decided to just cut those out! It was super easy and made a huge difference.

Then I styled it with my $3.00 Coach purse, a denim skirt, and I tied the front to make it look more flattering and on trend! I love this outfit for a casual day out!

I wanted to make the second outfit a dressier option. This is something you could wear to church or out to dinner!
I styled it with my thrifted purse, some brown wedges, and I tied a casual black tee to make it look a little bit more on trend.
I think this one might be my favorite!

I hope you all found this helpful! It was a fun post to do and I hope it inspired you to get out to your local thrift stores and style some vintage outfits of your own!

Thanks for reading! Which outfit was your favorite??

  5. Wow! Love this post and these outfits, especially the first one! I've always liked shopping at thrift stores and finding a bargain, but I feel like I can have a hard time seeing the potential in something that seems outdated. I definitely feel inspired after reading this!
